  4. Donna Summer is one of those artists whose work is often dismissed as disco-fluff, but “Once Upon a Time” marks her third consecutive concept album (matched perhaps only by Pink Floyd and Radiohead). Pretty heady company for someone many people know only by her string of radio hits/5().
  5. Aug 31,  · 'Once Upon A Time' was the first Donna Summer album I ever bought. I remember the 8-track of 'On the Radio: Greatest Hits Volumes I & II' being around the house when I was very little. I remember watching 'Thank God It's Friday' on HBO in the late '70s and grew up hearing her on the radio and seeing her on TV throughout the '80s.
  6. Nov 16,  · "Working The Midnight Shift" and "Queen For A Day" are both excellent, but the real carat track is "Now I Need You", where Donna's emotional vocals and an almost gospel-like chorus are underpinned by the trademark minimal Munich groove/5().
  7. "Once upon a time" is a kind of "Bible" for Disco music genre. In fact, this Donna's album has never reached an extreme success at the time, mainly because it did not contain hot hits. However, it is a masterpiece of disco music and could be considered as real piece of contemporary music art.
  8. Once Upon a Time is the sixth studio album by American singer-songwriter Donna Summer. It was released on October 31, , and peaked at No. 26 on the US Billboard , number thirteen on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 24 on the UK Albums Chart. 9. A beautiful concept album. Beautifully remastered. No one plays synths like Giorgio Moroder. His glorious synths on "Now I Need You", "Midnight Shift" and "Queen For A Day" are mesmerizing. I love those pulsating rhythms with Donna Summer's haunting voice. I love the playful "If You Got It, Flaunt It". This album sounds as fresh today as it did /5(38).
